CHUREN HIMAL EXPEDITION
This is definitely the road less travelled, with fewer people venturing to this mountain. The Churen Himal is located in the west of the Dhaulagiri Range with three major peaks: Churen Himal Central (7385m – considered the main peak), Churen Himal East (7371m) and Churen Himal West (7371m).
Raging rivers, vast forgotten and pristine valleys, rhododendron and other forests home to an array of wildlife as you pass through the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, the only hunting reserve in Nepal covering an area of 1325 km² in the Dhaulagiri Himal of western Nepal in the Rukum, Myagdi and Baglung Districts. Follow trails through Magar villages and discover their unique heritage. Magars follow Buddhism, Hinduism and Bon. Those in the north follow Shamanism (Bon) with a clear connection to Tibetan Buddhism. The trail will expose you to the giant Dhaulagiri (8167m – 7th highest in world) and Annapurna peaks, as well as the Gurja Himal and Churen Himal.
The journey begins in Pokhara and after a road trip leads to the villages of: Darbang (1110m/3641ft), Takam via Dharapani (1670m/5479ft), Lumsang (2120m/6,955ft), Gurja (2620m/8595ft), Darsinge Khark (3600m/11811ft), Burjunga Khark (3415m/11204ft) and finally to Churen Himal Base Camp (4600m/15091ft).
