Lower Dolpo Trek

The Lower Dolpo Trek offers a remote trekking experience in the isolated region of far western Nepal. The main highlight of this trek is the gorgeous Shey Phoksundo Lake, which is located at an elevation of 3,611 meters from sea level. It also includes Shey-Phoksundo National Park, which is the largest National Park in Nepal. The Lower Dolpo region is regarded as one of the hidden treasures of Nepal because of its rich natural and cultural heritage. The 20-day Lower Dolpo Trek begins from Jhupal after taking 2 flights from Kathmandu via Nepalgunj. From here, you will begin trekking up to the Nawarpani village going through several small villages, and alpine forests, crossing numerous streams and walking along the river. Further, passing by Dho Tarap, you will ascend to the Numala Base camp. The trail then moves to Temche via Danigar. The next day, you will visit the sumptuous Shey Phoksundo Lake. On the way, you will get to see excellent views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 M), Mt. Annapurna (8091 M), Mt. Annapurna II (7937 M), Mt. Api (7132 M), Kagmara Ri (5115 M), and other Tibetan mountains. During the trek, you will come across numerous Buddhist and Bon gompas that will present you with the cultural richness of the region. Moreover, around the lake, an annual prayer and worship take place that attracts numerous pilgrims. The Lower Dolpo region is highly influenced by the Tibetan and Bon culture. Furthermore, this is also one of the few areas where the pre-Buddhist Bon Po religion is still practiced. Similarly, you will witness stunning views of snow-capped peaks all around the lake that make the perfect fairytale scenery. However, you have to be in good shape to go on this trek. The best time is from the beginning of August to the end of October. During this time of the year, the entire region blooms with beautiful colorful flowers, and the sky is clear blue with chilled air in the morning and evening. Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1350 M) and Transfer to Hotel
Arrive in Kathmandu and be transferred to your hotel. Spend the evening relaxing or taking a stroll around the vibrant city, preparing for the journey ahead.

Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing with a Tour Guide
Enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Kathmandu. Visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, and the ancient temples in Durbar Square. Your guide will provide insight into the rich history and culture of the Kathmandu Valley.

Day 03: Fly to Nepalgunj (150 M)
Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, located in the lowland Terai region. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel to rest and prepare for the next day’s journey.

Day 04: Fly to Juphal & Trek to Dunai
Take an early morning flight to Juphal, followed by a trek to Dunai, the administrative center of the Dolpo region. Enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains and valleys as you settle in for the night.

Day 05: Trek to Tarakot
Start your trek toward Tarakot, passing through scenic villages and forests. Tarakot is an ancient settlement with a charming landscape, making it an ideal stop on the way.

Day 06: Trek to Lahina Odar
Trek further into the Dolpo region, heading toward Lahina Odar. The path takes you through rugged terrain, offering a peaceful and remote atmosphere, perfect for adventure lovers.

Day 07: Trek to Nawarpani
Continue your journey, trekking to Nawarpani. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the mountains and valleys. This village is a peaceful stop before heading further into the mountains.

Day 08: Trek to Dho Tarap
Trek to Dho Tarap, a stunning village located in the upper Dolpo region. Dho Tarap is known for its unique Tibetan culture, and you will be surrounded by beautiful landscapes, including high-altitude pastures.

Day 09: Acclimatization Day
Spend the day acclimatizing to the higher altitude by exploring Dho Tarap and its surrounding areas. Take a light walk and rest to ensure your body adjusts to the altitude.

Day 10: Trek to Numala Base Camp
Today, begin your trek toward the Numala Base Camp, passing through remote landscapes and higher altitudes. The trek can be challenging, but the views along the way will be worth the effort.

Day 11: Trek to Danigar (4515 M) via Numala Pass
Ascend to Numala Pass (5318 m), which offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. After crossing the pass, descend to the village of Danigar, where you will rest for the night at an altitude of 4515 meters.

Day 12: Trek to Temche (3995 M) via Bagala Pass
Trek to Temche, crossing Bagala Pass (5072 m) along the way. The pass offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains, and the descent will lead you to the village of Temche, where you will rest.

Day 13: Trek to Shey Phoksundo/Ringmo
Descend toward Shey Phoksundo, passing through forests and alpine meadows. Reach the village of Ringmo, where you can view the famous Shey Phoksundo Lake, a stunning turquoise lake nestled in the mountains.

Day 14: Day Hike Around Shey Phoksundo Lake
Take a day to hike around the serene Shey Phoksundo Lake. You can visit the nearby Buddhist monastery and enjoy the tranquil surroundings, which offer an unforgettable experience.

Day 15: Trek to Rechi
Continue your trek to Rechi, a small village located in the Phoksundo Valley. Enjoy the views of the surrounding forests and alpine meadows as you make your way to your next destination.

Day 16: Trek to Kageni
Trek from Rechi to Kageni, enjoying the rugged terrain and beautiful landscapes along the way. This village is a peaceful resting point as you head towards the lower altitudes.

Day 17: Trek to Juphal
Descend to Juphal, retracing your steps through the beautiful Dolpo region. As you reach the town, you will have the opportunity to reflect on the journey and relax before returning to Kathmandu.

Day 18: Fly to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu
Fly from Juphal to Nepalgunj, and then take a flight back to Kathmandu. Enjoy your evening in Kathmandu, reminiscing about your incredible adventure.

Day 19: Extra Day in Case of Flight Cancellation Due to Bad Weather
This extra day is included in case of any flight delays or cancellations due to weather conditions. It gives you flexibility and peace of mind before your final departure.

Day 20: Final Departure
