Dhampus(Thapa) Peak Climbing

Dhampus Peak (6012m) is situated northeast of the gigantic Dhaulagiri massif. The peak is easy to climb and does not require any technical climbing skills. Dhampus Peak is also known as ‘Thapa Peak’. Climbing Dhampus Peak which stands at an altitude of 6012m is a remarkable experience. It is one of the most popular but normal climbing peaks in Nepal that is also known as Thapa Peak. Thapa peak lies in the middle of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan range; the peak is precisely uncomplicated and offers a magnificent insight into the entire upper Kali Gandaki valley. From the summit, we have an inspiring view of its spectacular mountains including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri with the nearby view of Tukuche and Dhaulagiri and many more peaks. Dhampus Peak Climbing with Alpine Ramble Treks begins following a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara and it can be submitted either by short course by means of Jomsom or by following the whole Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m)

  • Meet and greet at the airport. Transfer to hotel. Briefing about the trek.

Day 2: Permit Preparation Day

  • Free day in Kathmandu for trek preparation and last-minute shopping.

  • Permits and paperwork arrangements.

Day 3: Drive Kathmandu to Beni

  • Drive duration: 9–10 hours

  • Scenic drive along Trishuli and Kali Gandaki rivers. Overnight in Beni.

Day 4: Trek Beni – Mauwaphant (1240m) – Dagnam (1750m) – Ekrate Gaun (1700m)

  • Trek duration: 7–8 hours

  • Gradual ascent through traditional villages and forest trails.

Day 5: Ekrate Gaun to Pahiro Kharka (2150m)

  • Trek duration: approx. 5 hours

  • Climb through forested trails with mountain views.

Day 6: Pahiro Kharka to Malampara (2150m)

  • Trek duration: 6–7 hours

  • Cross scenic ridges and streams en route to Malampara.

Day 7: Malampara to Malampara Pass (2950m)

  • Trek duration: 6–7 hours

  • Steep climb to the first high pass of the trek.

Day 8: Malampara Pass – Sinkos Khola (1600m) – Bagar (Jeltung 1900m)

  • Trek duration: 6–7 hours

  • Descend through forests and follow river trails to Bagar.

Day 9: Bagar (Jeltung) – Lipse – Dobang (2550m)

  • Trek duration: 6–7 hours

  • Enter deeper into the wilderness of the Dhaulagiri region.

Day 10: Dobang to Choriban (3050m)

  • Trek duration: 5–6 hours

  • Hike through alpine terrain, rivers, and rhododendron forests.

Day 11: Choriban to Italian Base Camp (3650m)

  • Trek duration: 3–4 hours

  • Beautiful trek to the foot of the Dhaulagiri range.

Day 12: Rest Day at Italian Base Camp (3650m)

  • Acclimatization day with optional short hikes.

Day 13: Italian Base Camp to Glacier Camp (4200m)

  • Trek duration: 4–5 hours

  • Cross moraine and icy trails carefully with support crew.

Day 14: Glacier Camp to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4650m)

  • Trek duration: 4 hours

  • Stunning views of Dhaulagiri I and surrounding peaks.

Day 15: Dhaulagiri Base Camp – French Col (5360m) – Hidden Valley (5100m)

  • Trek duration: 6–7 hours

  • Cross the high French Col with panoramic Himalayan views.

Day 16: Summit Dhampus Peak (6012m) – Trek to Alu Bari (3600m)

  • Trek & climb duration: 8–9 hours

  • A challenging but rewarding summit day.

Day 17: Alu Bari – Marpha (2650m) – Jomsom (2720m)

  • Walking: 3 hours / Drive: 1 hour

  • Trek through apple orchards to Marpha, then drive to Jomsom.

Day 18: Flight Jomsom to Pokhara (827m)

  • Scenic 25-minute mountain flight. Leisure in Pokhara.

Day 19: Fly/Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

  • Flight: 25 minutes / Drive: 7–8 hours

  • Transfer to hotel and rest.

Day 20: Sightseeing in Kathmandu + Farewell Dinner

  • Explore UNESCO sites, local markets, and enjoy a cultural dinner.

Day 21: Final Departure

  • Transfer to airport for onward journey.
